What Apple does
Apple designs and sells the iPhone, Mac computers, iPad tablets, and wearable and home devices such as Apple Watch, AirPods, the Vision Pro headset, Apple TV and HomePod speakers. Each runs Apple's own operating system. It also sells services: the App Store, subscriptions such as Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade and Apple Fitness+, iCloud storage, AppleCare repair and support plans, advertising, and payment services including Apple Pay and Apple Card. Its customers are consumers, businesses of all sizes, schools and governments around the world. The iPhone brings in the largest share of sales, and services are the second-largest line. Apple organizes its business by region, with five segments: the Americas, Europe (which also includes India, the Middle East and Africa), Greater China, Japan and the rest of Asia Pacific.
Biggest risks, in its own words
- Its reliance on outside manufacturers and logistics partners, many of them located outside the United States.
- Some parts come from one or a few suppliers, and it may not get enough of them on reasonable terms.
- Rivals that cut prices and copy its features, and the need to launch new products successfully and often.
- Trade disputes, tariffs and political tension that disrupt its supply chain or its sales in key regions.
