Brands named in its 10-K include Betty Crocker, Bisquick, Annie's and Blue Buffalo. The company sells mainly to grocery stores, mass merchandisers, membership stores, drug and dollar chains, e-commerce retailers, foodservice distributors and restaurants. General Mills also holds 50 percent interests in two joint ventures: Cereal Partners Worldwide with Nestlé, which sells cereal outside North America, and Häagen-Dazs Japan.
Biggest risks, in its own words
- Strong competition, including from lower-priced store brands, that could hurt its sales and profit margins.
- Its reliance on a few large retail customers, with Walmart the biggest, as grocery chains consolidate.
- Swings in the prices of grains, packaging, energy and other inputs it relies on.
- Product safety or quality concerns that make shoppers lose confidence in its products or brands.
