What Pinterest does

PINS Β· Interactive Home Entertainment

From its latest annual report

Pinterest runs a free app and website where people search for and save images and videos, called Pins, for ideas such as recipes, outfits, home projects or trips. Users sort Pins onto boards and can click through to buy products they find. Pinterest says 619 million people use it each month across more than 100 countries, about two-thirds of them women.

Almost all of Pinterest's revenue comes from advertising. Brands and retailers pay to place ads, including image, video and shopping ads, among the Pins people browse, and most buy them through an automated auction. Advertisers pay either for views or for results such as clicks and purchases. Average revenue per user is much higher in North America: in 2025 it was $30.84 per user in the United States and Canada and $5.12 in Europe. Pinterest names Amazon, Meta, Google, OpenAI, Snap, Reddit, TikTok and X among its competitors for users' time and for advertisers.

Pinterest uses AI to recommend content and target ads, drawing on what people search for and save. It had 5,265 full-time employees at the end of 2025, and in early 2026 it began a restructuring to shift staff and spending toward AI work.

KIRA’s summary AI analyst

Hi! I read Pinterest’s latest annual report (fiscal 2025). Here is what stands out:

5 strengths

1.Sales and profit

See section β†’
  • Pinterest had $4.2B of revenue in fiscal 2025, up 15.8% on the year before. Over five years, revenue changed +20.1% a year on average.
  • Its operating margin was 7.6%, up 2.7Β pts: of every 100 in sales, about 8 is left after running the business.
  • Pinterest made $417M of net profit in fiscal 2025.

2.Cash and shareholders

See section β†’
  • Free cash flow was $1.3B in fiscal 2025, 29.7% of revenue.
  • Pinterest returned $927M to shareholders in fiscal 2025, 74% of free cash flow. The diluted share count fell 1.5%.
  • In the last 12 months, insiders sold $46.1M of shares on the open market and bought none.

3.Financial health

See section β†’
  • Pinterest has $2.5B more cash than debt.
  • Its return on capital was 13.2%: every 100 invested in the business earned about 13 in a year.
  • Pinterest passes 5 of 9 financial health tests (Piotroski F-score).

4.Price and value

See section β†’
  • At $21.23 a share, the company is worth $12.0B: 62.4 times its earnings of the last four quarters.
  • Pinterest grew sales faster than 2 of its 4 similar companies. Its P/E is higher than 0 of 1.

Biggest risks, in its own words

  • Its dependence on advertising, so losing advertisers or seeing them spend less would hurt revenue.
  • Failing to attract, keep and engage users, which would make the platform less useful to advertisers.
  • Competition from larger internet companies for users' attention and for ad budgets.
  • Limits on its ability to collect and use data to target ads and measure how well they work.
  • Its reliance on Amazon Web Services for most of its computing and storage.

If you put in $1,000 today: $1,611

At 50x, earnings only need to grow 4.5% a year for the share to be worth today’s price in 5 years. Faster, you gain; slower, you lose.

These are examples, not forecasts: nobody knows which will happen. Price in 5 years = earnings per share then Γ— the P/E then. Dividends are not included.

In plain words: In the long run a share tends to follow two things: how much the company earns per share, and how many times those earnings the market is willing to pay (the P/E). Move those two levers and you see what the share could be worth. Different guesses give very different answers.
