From its latest annual report

Ball makes aluminum packaging for drinks, personal care products and household goods. Its biggest product line is aluminum beverage cans. It also makes extruded aluminum aerosol containers, resealable aluminum bottles and aluminum slugs, which are small aluminum discs that are formed into containers. It produces them in plants around the world and sells them to large multinational beverage, personal care and household products companies.

Ball earns its revenue by selling these containers, often under long-term supply contracts with customers it has served for years. It sells a significant part of its output to major companies and brands, as well as to many regional customers. In 2025 its total consolidated net sales were $13.16 billion. The company says aluminum packaging is its focus and that it competes with other packaging made from different materials.

KIRA’s summary AI analyst

Hi! I read Ball’s latest annual report (fiscal 2025). Here is what stands out:

3 strengths

1.Sales and profit

See section β†’
  • Ball had $13.2B of revenue in fiscal 2025, up 11.6% on the year before. Over five years, revenue changed +2.2% a year on average.
  • Ball made $915M of net profit in fiscal 2025. From fiscal 2016 to 2025, diluted EPS grew 16.9% a year.

2.Cash and shareholders

See section β†’
  • Free cash flow was $788M in fiscal 2025, 6.0% of revenue.
  • Ball returned $1.5B to shareholders in fiscal 2025, 196% of free cash flow. The diluted share count fell 10.5%.
  • In the last 12 months, insiders bought $0.1M and sold $2.3M of shares on the open market.

3.Financial health

See section β†’
  • Ball owes $5.8B more than it holds in cash, about 2.8 years of operating profit.
  • Its return on capital was 10.4%: every 100 invested in the business earned about 10 in a year.
  • Ball passes 6 of 8 financial health tests (Piotroski F-score).

4.Price and value

See section β†’
  • At $64.76 a share, the company is worth $17.3B: 18.4 times its earnings of the last four quarters.
  • Ball grew sales faster than 4 of its 4 similar companies. Its P/E is higher than 1 of 2.

Biggest risks, in its own words

  • Losing a key customer, or an adverse change in a key customer's requirements, since it sells to a limited number of large companies.
  • A significant level of debt that could limit its flexibility and cash available for the business.
  • Competition from other types of packaging that could lower its profit and cash flow.
  • A narrow product range, so weaker demand for aluminum packaging or the drinks in it would hurt it.
  • Risks from operating in many regions, including conflicts, tariffs and other trade measures.
